Whales

Today, I am going to be telling you some facts about whales.

Did you know?

Did you know that the largest whale is the blue whale, it is (on average) 30m (98ft) in length and 170 tonnes or more in weight ! Sadly they are an endangered species as they are being hunted and there have also been records of killer whales attacking them. Blue whales eat krill. Blue whales are not only the largest whale but the largest animal ever to exist!

     

There are are about 86 different species of whales. Whales and dolphins are cousins. The killer whale has its name from its diet as some of the things they do to catch there food is killer. Most killer whales eat sea lions, seals, walruses and even large whales. To catch there food they use tactics such as spy hopping, tipping ice burgs and even drowning the animal.
